The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has said that Ghana card numbers will be issued to newly born babies right at the hospitals starting from July 2023.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was a guest speaker at International Women’s Conference held in UK on Saturday, June 10, 2023, during his speech, the Vice President revealed that from the month of July, when a child is born in Ghana, the child will be given a Ghana Card number right from the hospital.
According to him, they have taken off the problem of fake birth certificates, bureaucracy, and corruption at the Birth and Deaths Registry. What they have done now is to digitalize the processes at the Birth and Death Registry and linked their system with the Ghana Health Service and the NIA.
Vice President disclosed this action include the harmonization of the databases maintained by the National Identification Authority (NIA), the Ghana Health Service (GHS), and the Births and Deaths Registry.
